“As a result of the updated CDC guidelines released yesterday, the City of Elgin is canceling all events at city facilities until at least the end of March.
Those events which have fewer than 250 attendees and can provide safe social distancing of six feet may continue; however, the Elgin Art Showcase does not have this capability. Thus, unfortunately, the Independent Players production of The Government Inspector is being cancelled.”
Because the City of Elgin is taking strong action to slow the spread of coronavirus in the city itself, we were disappointed that we are not able to continue the run of our present production which opened last weekend, but we are, in retrospect, fully supportive of the decision which pushed us to make what we now know is the best decision in these circumstances.
In view of this situation, Independent Players has decided that it will resurrect The Government Inspector in September over two weekends. It will play Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, September 18-20 and 15-27, 2020 at the Elgin Art Showcase. The cast and director feel so very strongly about this wonderful, satirical comedy that it will reconvene to make its second run in Elgin a huge success.
Please join us then for what we know will turn out to be one of the best decisions we have every made. We did not want to be responsible for anyone contracting the virus and by waiting until (we hope) this pandemic is totally under control we are simply being responsible to our audience.
