Volunteer

As an organization which strives to present important theatrical works in the Elgin and the Fox Valley Area, INDEPENDENT PLAYERS is always willing to welcome those who wish to get involved and do something in the arts of this area.  This area is one of the most vibrant culturally in the western suburbs, but there is always a need for new and vibrant volunteers.

INDEPENDENT PLAYERS is always looking for people who want to get involved with a group that strives to break new ground and looks beyond the ordinary. Annually, it presents theatrical works which are not being produced by other groups in the area and this has proven to be really successful.  In its second season, for example, when it chose to produce David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre, it had to secure the right to do the show from the playwright himself because it was so new.  It turned out to be the perfect play with which to give audiences a better idea of what IP would seek to produce in future seasons.  In subsequent seasons, many other plays and musicals which had not been seen locally have made their way onto the local theatre scene because IP chose to produce them.  Its 38th Season is no exception; it is opening the season with LOVE4 (Love to the 4th power), a musical revue conceived and directed by Doug Orlyk, an exceptional musician and actor who has done several shows with IP in the recent past.  Its plan is to continue to program shows like this for years to come!

Consequently, volunteers are welcome in every area of production imaginable.  IP always needs actors, directors, designers, stage hands, publicists, technicians, fund-raisers—volunteers of all sorts.  IP would like to build a core company which would be the back-bone of its entire operational base, and add to that skilled people in all areas who come together and produce theatre which is inventive and exciting, entertaining and educational.  It seems that a real renaissance in the arts is happening in Elgin, so now is the time to get involved and be part of the excitement.  Because theatre offers opportunities which can utilize the abilities and skills of many talented people.  Theatre needs everybody—it done not depend on a small group of people with very specific abilities and skills.  Hundreds of people with varying skills have directed, acted, choreographed, played an instrument, designed the shows in IP’s past 37 seasons; many have done numerous shows with the group.  A theatre company has the potential to welcome everybody, so if you would like to be involved in some way, who not give INDEPENDENT PLAYERS a try!
